Council of Europe calls for CIA inquiry

STRASBOURG, France, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- The Council of Europe has called
for an investigation into alleged CIA jails operating throughout the
continent that housed terrorist suspects.

This comes after an article Wednesday in The Washington Post that
detailed the so-called "black sites," as well as a report by Human
Rights Watch.

Romania and Poland, both named by Human Rights Watch, have denied
existence of the camps, the BBC reports.

The Post article said the camps were set up after the Sept. 11, 2001,
terrorist attacks and held 30 prisoners but are no longer in
operation.

The article also said at least 70 suspects were transferred to
intelligence agencies in other countries such as Egypt, Jordan,
Morocco and Afghanistan.
