MAPLES ASSUMES ROLE AS DIA CHIEF

In a ceremony Nov. 4, Maj. Gen. Michael D. Maples took the helm from Vice Adm. Lowell E. Jacoby as the Defense Intelligence Agency's newest director.



Jacoby, who is retiring from the Navy after serving nearly 37 years, served as the DIA director since Oct. 17, 2002.



Prior to serving as DIA director, Maples was vice director of the Joint Staff while also serving as the joint staff director of management. Maples' past assignments include commanding general of U.S. Army Field Artillery Center and Fort Sill; and director of operations, readiness and mobilization for the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans for U.S. Army.



Maples graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and earned a master's degree in organizational behavior from Pacific Lutheran University.
