As of right now, FEMA, known formally as the Federal Emergency Management Agency, plans to stop footing the hotel bills for victims of Hurricane Katrina on December 1st. That deadline is quickly approaching and leaves thousands in limbo to find shelter. On the contrary, many organizations, politicians, and citizens are stepping forward to voice their concern and urge a date pushback.
The Hip Hop Caucus, Rebuild Hope Now Coalition, Survivors Of Hurricane Katrina, African-American Clergy, United Progressives For Democracy, a handful of politicians, and a few Hip Hop Congress chapters are among the multitude that are putting public pressure on FEMA and the President Bush?s administration to extend the December 1st deadline until atleast the end of 2005. FEMA officials have stated that they are working very hard to find each and every family and individual housing prior to the deadline.
A plan has already been established by the Hip Hop Caucus and the supporting collective to truly make their voices heard. If FEMA or the Bush administration have not delayed the December 1st date in honor of the many still homeless from the hurricane disasters prior to November 29th, a march and protest will take place in the nation?s capitol. On Wednesday, November 30th, in Washington D.C., a collective will step foot on the FEMA headquarters located at 500 C Street S.W. Washington, D.C. at 11 a.m. sharp.
