Compromise Reached To Keep CIA Leak Evidence Under Wraps

Compromise Reached To Keep CIA Leak Evidence Under Wraps
WASHINGTON (AP)--Patrick Fitzgerald, the special prosecutor in the CIA leak case, told a hearing Friday that he has reached a compromise with lawyers representing media establishments on protective orders that the prosecutor had sought for classified and unclassified evidence gathered in the case against I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby.

Libby was indicted by a grand jury on perjury and obstruction charges related to the investigation into the leak of the identity of CIA operative Valerie Plame.

At a hearing Friday, Fitzgerald and the media lawyers told U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton about the compromise.

In documents filed before the hearing, Fitzgerald said an order keeping evidence under wraps was needed "because the investigation is continuing and because the investigation will involve proceedings before a different grand jury" from the one that indicted Libby.
