The FEMA protest scheduled for 11/30 has been moved to 12/14.
While the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has decided to extend the deadline for hotel and motel payments, survivors in Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, California, Tennessee, Arkansas and Nevada until Jan. 7 the deadline is shorter Dec. 15 for survivors in all other states.
This is not enough!
FEMA must come up with a proper plan for people to return home. The termination of hotel payments must be based on needs and alternative humane shelter - rather than on a government deadline. FEMA must provide trailers for homeless evacuees and to enable survivors to come home and rebuild their homes. Please go to katrinaaction.org and support HR 4197, which authorizes additional funds for the disaster area for housing through Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and other mechanisms. It includes funding for 300,000 additional Section 8 Vouchers, and increases Fair Housing Enforcement and Housing Counseling for families in temporary shelters.
All organizations who wish to be included in the FEMA protest please contact Diane at ippn.diane@earthlink.net or call 845-661-3754 or 202-545-0113
