Israeli soldier held in Gaza still alive: Shin Beth
Sun Jul 16, 12:10 PM ET
An Israeli soldier captured by Palestinian militants three weeks ago and being held in Gaza is still alive, head of the Shin Beth internal security service Yuval Diskin has said.
**and how, exactly, would Shin Beth know he was alive? **
"According to intelligence reports, Gilad Shalit is still alive," Diskin told ministers during the weekly cabinet meeting.
Diskin also said that Shalit was still being held in the Gaza Strip despite his captors' plans to transfer him out of the coastal Palestinian area.
**if it is known in such detail where he is, then why is Israel bombing Lebanon at all?**
Three Palestinian militant groups -- including the armed wing of the ruling Hamas party -- have claimed the 19-year-old's abduction and demanded the release of hundreds of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons in exchange.
Since the June 25 Palestinian operation, Israel has been leading a massive ground operation in the Gaza Strip in an effort to retrieve Shalit and to put an end to rocket fire into southern Israel.
