Organized crime decision from B.C. court carries huge implications

CKNW(AM980) - The publication ban has been lifted on a B.C. Supreme Court decision that has huge implications in the fight against criminal organizations.
Justice Heather Holmes has ruled against a section of the criminal code that punishes anyone who commits an offence as part of a criminal organization.
The judge finds the definition of criminal organization vague. The ruling came down this past Thursday but has until now been under a publication ban.
The name of the accused is still under a ban.
However while it tosses out a part of the criminal organization law, it does not squash all of it. It will have repercussions when it comes to project Epandora, the major effort against the Hells Angels.
Some of the people charged in that case faced the section of the criminal code which has now been deemed invalid."
