President Abbas Arrives in Russia
SOCHI (RUSSIA), May 14, 2006 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbas arrived Sunday in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi.

. It is scheduled that President Abbas will meet tomorrow with his Russian counterpart Mr. Vladimir Putin to discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian territories in light of the economic siege imposed on the palestinain people.

They will also discuss many issues of common interest as well as bilateral ties.

. Last night, President Abbas met, in Amman, with Jordan Prime Minister Ma'rouf al-Bakhit and the Jordanian Foreign Minister Abdul Elah al-Khatib.

They discussed the situation in the Palestinian territories and the efforts exerted to ensure entrance of assistance into the territories.

. For his part, al-Khatib briefed President Abbas on the results of the Quartet meetings in New York, in which he took part.

Meanwhile, President Abbas received a letter from the Sudanese President Omer al-Bashir, who takes the chair of the current session of the Arab Summit. The letter was handed in Amman to President Abbas by the Sudanese President's Advisor Mustafa Othamn.
